Old McDonald had some pork?
I think it is time to start ending some of the unnecessary give-aways that are costing the U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars. As it says in this story, the subsidies to farmers are outrageous and has no effect on our food supply. In fact, most of the subsidies are paid for farmers not to grow crops. I read that a Chicago basketball player bought a farm in IL which had a subsidy for over $100,000 for not growing the corn for which he had an allotment. He had no intention of growing the crop anyway, but still collects the $$$ from the government. More pork that is threw to a select group of people to buy votes.

This loophole needs to be closed
This is in response to this Fox News story.
I get tired of hearing about illegal aliens rushing to the U.S. to give birth to their children. The spirit of this is to let the children of legal immigrants enjoy the right of being a citezen after being born in the U.S. If someone is here illegal, their children should not be legitimized. It is another underhanded ploy to gain access to this country.
"Among other things, the law requires state agencies to check the immigration status of all adults asking for taxpayer-funded benefits such as food stamps and extends to some local law enforcement the authority to enforce federal immigration laws."
If all states aren't checking for legal status before they hand out freebies, they should.

Are we safe now?
I think everyone would agree our government didn't do enough to protect us on 9/11. But keep in mind that we just came through the 90's where our military and intelligence organizations were decimated by budget cuts. The same people who want to cut our intelligence are the ones yelling about them not doing enough. They are also the ones crying about the Patriot Act. Freedom isn't free and it's not cheap either. If we want to be safe we need to give the government the means to do their job and leave the alone and let them do it.
Here is a Fox News story on the subject.

Can Democrats carry the South?
Tennessee just seemed to slip away from Democrats in recent years. However, Harold Ford, Jr., made a very strong showing for the U.S. Senate in 2006 and Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen remains very popular. There’s hope for Tennessee yet.
This is in response to this story.
There is no hope for liberal Democrats in Tennessee. Ford and Bredesen both have moderate views and both have some conservative views.
Texas, which has the second largest number of electoral votes, will be back in the Democratic column some day. The only question is when. Its rapidly growing Hispanic population ultimately will help tip the state. Also, Democrats made gains in state legislative races in 2006 and carried all countywide races in Dallas County, the second most populous county in the state, that year. A similar showing is possible in Harris County (Houston) and Bexar County (San Antonio) in 2008. Republican Gov. Rick Perry remains very unpopular.
Another reason for a mass deportation and stricter border control. I can see massive changes to our way of life in the near future. We are being overtaken with illegal aliens.

Is Russia back?
It's disturbing to me that we can be so complacent about our national security. Did we not learn anything from 9/11? It seems that we would have learned that it is better to be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to our security. This story is proof that we have not learned much from our history. Its' frustrating to see countries that rely on our $$$ to survive, not helping but hurting our security. All of our threats are armed with Soviet technology. I read a story a while back about the first M1 tank that was lost in combat. It was destroyed in the last gulf war by a Soviet made anti-tank weapon that was developed after the first gulf war (after an arms embargo was put in place by the UN). We send aid and import products from China and Russia and there is no doubt that they would destroy us if they could.

Missing Amendment???
I don't remember studying the amendment that provides universal health care. I guess it is near the one that supplies illegal aliens with all the rights and benefits of a U.S. citizen. Health costs are high and I would hate to go without insurance, but based on every other government program, this would be a money pit and a disaster. The best way to get a grip on the spiraling cost of health care is to get the government out of it. This is not Canada(THANK GOD). Government should only provide oversight to keep health providers in check.
